As I announced during this evening's broadcast (and just shared from YouTube) I will be ending the live streaming broadcast soon.
When I restarted the show, I called this particular series "One More Time" because it was always my intention to finally finish what I had started, take some time to celebrate all that we've been able to accomplish, have my victory lap, and try to tie up any loose ends that I could, knowing all the while that I wouldn't be able to tie them all.
But still, even with the diminished presence in chat, I call this a successful reboot, because I've gotten to do this one more time and I've enjoyed it, it has always been a special honor to do what few others have done, which is to share amazing music composed by incredible people, and as Pete Berwick said the first time I had him on, to celebrate music, and enjoy music.
Have you watched the 10th anniversary video yet? It really highlights some of the highest points of Indie Spotlight Live, I know I had a ton of fun putting it together and during the live premier on Facebook I was lucky to have someone that was there that remembered all the fun times as well and it was a ton of fun taking that walk down memory lane.
It was then that I realized that doing that video, I had indeed "put the period at the end of the sentence" and had finally positioned Indie Spotlight for a proper sendoff.
So, over the next couple of week's I will continue to use the computer generated playlist that I've been using since January, while putting one final one together that will be sort of a greatest hits song list consisting of fan favorites as well as ones that I've become fond of as well.
While the "One More Time" series will be coming to an end, this isn't the end of Indie Spotlight. I will continue to maintain the social media presence featuring videos that I find on YouTube as well sharing anything else that I relevant that people who follow the Facebook page, Facebook group, or Twitter page might be interested in. I'll be sure to remember the blogger followers as well since you folks have been here since the beginning.
Will I ever bring the live stream back? I'm not gonna lie, I might do a random show here or there, this has been a part of my life for so long that I'm having a hard time saying goodbye to it but to be honest about it, my passion for this isn't anything near what it once was, and hasn't been for a long time and as amazing as it's been doing Indie Spotlight there isn't anything new to do here, and nothing to get really get excited about. What I can say is that I've accomplished at least most of what I wanted to when I started this show. I'm really proud of the run we've had here, it's almost a seductive question to wonder what has changed on the internet over the past 10 years?
We live in an era where pretty much anyone can live stream anything, at any time. Back in the time that Indie Spotlight started on blogtv it was a unique thing, you had to be on a site that hosted it, and now, well you can stream live on Facebook and YouTube on demand at any time. You might ask why I don't just do that, well, while I do go live on Facebook I don't play music, and the same with YouTube because of the same reasons I was picky about a site to broadcast on to begin with, which is the Terms of Service which hardly anyone reads, but if you did, you might realize what rights you give away when you sign up for these sites and I'll leave it at that. Camup understands this kind of thing and has it in their terms of service in a way that respects their broadcasters which can't be said for either of the main players that I mentioned above.
So, you might be wondering what future plans I have if any? Right now I'm not sure, I'd like to get back into doing a newsy/political kind of show either in a podcast format, or similar to what I was doing on blogtalkradio before I started Indie Spotlight. Right now I'm really not sure.
Meanwhile, I'll be spending the next couple of weeks winding down the live broadcast so if you've been wanting to stop by and check it out, I'll be enabling "guest chat" on the page on camup.tv so that everyone can check it out before it all "goes back into the vault". I hope to see ya there and always, thank you all so much for the support over the years, it means a lot.
